I wanted to add a couple of sentences to my “English for beginners” course - but whenever I type an apostrophe, although it first appears to be normal, it is soon replaced by “’”. I’ve tried using various keyboards, but the problem persists.
Here is the level with the new buggy sentences: http://www.memrise.com/course/1270492/engleski-za-pocetnike/23/
The sentences in the older levels are unaffected, fortunately - but now I am unable to normally create any items with apostrophes, which is highly inconvenient for English…
Btw, I’ve just noticed that the line of symbols that I had pasted into both the title of the topic and the text itself was actually replaced by an apostrophe in the text…
You could try using a backslash (') or backticks (') – hm, apparently, backslash-escaping the ampersand doesn’t work, but backticks do. What I typed was ``.
When I was proof-reading some of the @EasyAcademy courses a couple of years ago, which I presume were uploaded from a spreadsheet of some sort, I noticed an & string in stead of single apostrophes and I had to physically change them all in the MemRise course database (which worked).
I wasn’t uploading from a spreadsheet, I was typing, and I had physically changed it some five or six times, but it still didn’t work (i.e. it kept reverting after I saved and exited) before the fix. But everything is normal now.
