Another Change to Something That Was Not Broken

Color is important to emotions, getting someones attention, and beauty. But, you can go too far with color, too. Memrise just changed the progress bar and the “almost correct” answer rectangle from a calming, easy to read medium blue to a bright yellow which is hard on the eyes. Something else got changed to a bright red, which is hard on the eyes, too. Once, I used the review “difficult words” portion of the lessons, but the bright orange in that review hurt my eyes so much, I stopped using it. Could you please go back to the old colors that are easier on the eyes?

I see what you mean.

I find the yellow progress bar while reviewing very distracting, while the green was there if I wanted to look at it.

the usual attitude… “we did not bother the web users for a while now, let’s do again something irritating and enjoy the show”

Other long time Memrisers may remember that, when doing reviews, the colour of the progress bar used to change between green, amber and red after each answer to reflect the proportion of correct/incorrect answers given.

Those were the days! :grinning:

i think it’s the least annoying change in recent times…

but that’s a low bar to clear.

the deep meaning of your post escapes me. Because it is not that very very irritating we should not speak about? Sorry if I misunderstood you.

the resentment in your post amazes me. because i’m not that furious about it, i’m not allowed to post my point of view here?

how about the beautiful calming natural landscape? everything moving towards the brilliant space theme…

Feeling comfortable in an environment that you visit every day is VERY important. Whoever designs the web now does not seem to understand that simple principle. The “more” button also ignores the principle of “friendly environment with quick access to the most used options”

For a while I have been using “Stylish” to rid myself of the horrible purple. I now also use it to get rid of yellow too. This is the look of my wall:

As you see, we can choose how the page looks. (by now)

would you have the kindness to send a model line to be added in some stylish script (I am already using 2 only in stylish) so I can change the colours myself

memrise is very difficult to use today, these constant colour changes give one headaches and ruin the eyes… the dashboard looks like a messy playing ground, the normal review has 7 stong colours on one page !!! terrible, and god save you from going from normal watering to difficult words

I just signed up on the forum after years of using Memrise on and off to voice my opposition to the recent color changes. I’m in agreement with all previous comments, it’s not very appealing unfortunately.

I agree it’s horrible.

Do any users from the old days remember when Memrise had a mad sparkly line for something or other? People complained and it was removed.

So many really clever people on this site, :).

I’d give it a go, but I don’t have a clue how to do any of this. :\

EDIT: somehow I’ve managed to properly introduce it. With the height at 80% is even better. Many thanks. Any trick for the review/learning page? the yellow is still visible in reviews

@cooljingle any chance you’re doing something similar to Mizuhana2’s aesthetic fixes for your CSS tweaks script? just wanted to know before i messed around with stylish

This works for me (for changing the yellow line, while within a review session):

.session-header .header-block.header-middle .bar-wrapper .bar {
background-color:#3ace24
}

Richard, where do you type this in to make the changes?

in some script/style that one has made with “stylish”-addon or similar in firefox.
