Android bugs

A post was split to a new topic: Items to review for courses with more than 1000 items ends with 999+ sign

Thanks both, Iā€™ll add all this info to the ticket (Internal tracking code QA-719)

Thanks again for your patience.

Such a curious fact:

  1. Memrise app has offline mode

  2. app wonā€™t start if

a) your internet connection is turned off,
b) internet connection is turned on, but you donā€™t have connection (actually, it could start, but not that easy)

Which leads us to the quite contradictory bottom line:

  1. you canā€™t use offline mode if you donā€™t have internet connection

Donā€™t you think something is wrong here?

Hi @Hombre_sin_nombre,

This is not the expected behaviour of the app. We have tested this on the latest Android release and the app is opening as usual in airplane mode.

Do you have any screenshots of what happens when you try to load up the app when offline?

Thanks,
Memrise team

Yep, I have. This is how it looks in airplane mode.

Did you try and clear the cache/local data? I tried with mine and didnā€™t have any problems. I actually went ahead and cleared all data two days or so ago because the app wouldnā€™t start and always presented an error message when loading (something like ā€œoops, data leak ā€¦ā€).

Iā€™ve tried now, but without much success. Keep stuck on the same screen.

P.S. Could you, please, use ā€œreply toā€ button (which is grey, not blue)? Donā€™t know if you are talking to me or somebody else.

I always do that. I suppose what you mean is that Discourse doesnā€™t show that my posting refers to yours. Thatā€™s probably due to the fact that my posting is the first one under yours. In this case, it seems to make no difference whether you click the grey image button underneath a posting or the blue image button at the end of the thread. ŠÆ Š½ŠµŠ²ŠøŠ½Š¾Š²ŠµŠ½!

Do you have doubled sound signal at the end of the session? Iā€™m afraid itā€™s a new bug.

Yes, I do. @MemriseSupport: it seems the recap screen at the end of a session is being shown twice (without user interaction).

Also, there is no audio/sound during the ā€œfirst roundā€ when learning new words in community courses (audio is played in official Memrise courses). The app doesnā€™t react to tapping the speaker icon then either.
Note that this bug has been there for at least 1-2 weeks, so it might not have been introduced in the very last version.

Oh, and thereā€™s another bug which is quite annoying: when creating a Mem from within the Android app, it seems you canā€™t make any line breaks. I always have to correct (insert) them via the web.

This bug may be very old already, I started creating Mems just a few weeks ago ā€¦

Thank you for the photo of the offline issue @Hombre_sin_nombre. Weā€™ve created a bug report for this (internal code QA-773)and will continue to monitor other reports. The latest details we have for your device is Sony Xperia XA, Android 7.0. Is this still the case?

Thank you both for reporting the other issues. Weā€™ll have a look into this and see if we can reproduce them on our devices.

Yep, itā€™s still the same device.

I was able to reproduce the following issues:

  1. Recap screen shown twice at the end of a session - internal code QA-775
  2. Line breaks are not saved on mems created on the Android app - internal code QA-776. This is more like an unexpected behaviour rather than a bug, but Iā€™ve created a ticket to have it looked at.

As for

@Olaf.Rabbachin I canā€™t reproduce this - could you please provide a bit more details on how to reproduce it, e.g. which courses it occurs with, does it happen both with wifi and mobile data? Are these still your device details? Huawei MediaPad M3, running Android 7 and a Samsung Galaxy S10e, running Android 10.

Thanks for your collaboration :raised_hands:

It happens (reliably) with at least those two courses:

FWIW, it seems that I can now tap the speaker-icon to get audio when itā€™s not being played automatically.
Iā€™m pretty sure this wasnā€™t the case last week, but I could as well be wrong, I suppose.

Yes. I rarely need to rely on mobile internet, BTW. Consequently, all above statements apply to a WiFi connection.

@ale_c @MemriseSupport

Why did you remove words counter in speed review? Did you do it by accident or on purpose?

Thanks - I was able to reproduce this. It seems like the behaviour is not consistent at all times. Iā€™ll create a ticket :+1:

Do you have a screenshot of the section where the counter is supposed to appear? I can still see it while in Speed Review (at the top) as well as at the end of a session.

@ale_c

Itā€™s not only words counter, but hearts disappeared as well.
Overall count after the session has not been affected.
I have the latest version - yesterdayā€™s update.
