Alts not being accepted with multiple choice questions

I made my own course. I decided to change some of the names a bit after a while. The problem with this is that because the words are so similar, now it gives both the new and the old answer as an option. For example with the word "grandfather’. I used to have both “grandfather (yours)” and grandfather (someone else’s). I changed “grandfather (yours)” to just grandfather, so “grandfather (yours)” no longer exists. I now often get the multiple choice answers “grandfather (yours)”, “grandfather (someone else’s)” and “grandfather”. Which is obviously very confusing and is ruining my course. As far as I know I have no control over what possible answers come up, so I tried adding these answers as alts. I tried it both with and without the _, but it doesn’t seem to be working. It still counts it as wrong if I select one of these other answers. Any way I can fix this (either by making the alt work or removing the multiple choice options)?

It seems that you have created two entries by editing.
Go to the database, search for ‘grandfather’ and edit the record from there. Then the old value will be destroyed.

Note: when you add a brand new word a level, it first creates a record in the new database, then adds a pointer to the level, pointing to the new word. If you then later edit the word in the level, it might create/sometimes creates a new database entry. The old entry is not in your level anymore, but still in the database, and shows up as alternative answers. Hence, don’t edit the level, edit the database.
