I can confirm what @Asterlea and @poggi described.
It is a really frustrating issue and hope it will be solve instead of being ignored.

Pinging here, as i just stumbled over the same problem in my course.
This is definitely a bug, as the underscore hides the alt as described, but then needs to be typed, which doesn’t make any sense.

Additionally, the punctuation as described in the help doesn’t work for strict typing, either. (alternatives with /, optionals with parens, ignoring of ¿?..)
If that’s on purpose, it should at least be documented on that help page.
