Many thanks Hydroptere. Personally (like some others) I can’t face trying something else (at least not creating courses) - although I do fancy trying those ‘Clouds’ courses.
I use Ankidroid for an Android tablet, it does not seem to eat that much.

yeah, thanks but the tablet in question is not android, the OS is a “full” OS, a French one originally made for multimedia “creatives”… and i try to learn chinese with it, the decks are above 5000 items each, with sound and examples… the thing is constantly freezing

There are actually studies that show word sequences with particularly unusual imagery are more likely to stick in your head, so it’s entirely possible sentences like that are more helpful than you think.
And how do you know it wasn’t intended to be uttered by a Swedish-speaking baby porcupine.

There’s repetition on Mondly? Do you mean spaced repetition? Where? I must have missed it.
I wasn’t all that impressed with what I could access from the free version in one session. It immediately jumped from stupidly easy (with a 2 word English prompt and the equivalent German audio, asking you to provide the German text), to surprisingly difficult (a 7-8 word sentence with quite rapidly spoken German audio, using a word in a way I’d never seen it used before, against asking you to type out the German text), but after a few examples of that there didn’t seem to be anything else I could do…

Anyway, thanks for the answer. “Manual” repetition basically equals no repetition.
There’s a new Anki addon that does the same as memrise premium’s “current/longest streak”, with extra functions like checking which items are due to review each day clicking on the squares. Really nice!

How to import stuff in anki from memrise?
I have installed the program, but don’t find a possibility to import something from memrise.
i have to say that i tested anki a bit today with one of their desks, and i still prefer memrise, although memrise looks very empty since the mems are gone
You can test it out more and let it grow on you. You can also install addons, if that’s what they’re called, to have it look and behave more like you want it to.
I have to make my own desks in Anki, it is very cumbersome for me to edit the cards from already made desks - although, one has to admit it, one can find very fine deks in Anki …
it used to be very easy to edit cards in Anki, until some 6 years ago
and i had to click myself on a button to say whether it was good or not,
maybe you can automate that
why? that is the very point of Anki, that the learner choses if she considers to know an item well enough or not

but then you’re back at using paper cards, i think
it’s better that the computer keeps track of your results and decides whether and when you have to learn something again
