Edit a existing course?

Hello

I am planning to translate an existing course (Portuguese / English) into German. This also allows German-speaking users to learn Brazilian Portuguese.
Can I download the course or edit the database?

1 memrise does not give one an option to do so.

2 editing the database - in the sense of translating into German - would result in a PT-DE database, with the English translations gone.

Yes, copy the existing database. Translate the english words and save as a portuguese / german course.

I would have a lot of work, but it would be profitable for all

Sadly, Memrise doesn’t provide a way to download the content of a course to do what you want.

If you search through these forums, there are some userscripts that are supposed to let you download a course, though.

Let us know if you have trouble finding them.

Hi! Ich schaffe es manchmal, einen Kurs zu downloaden (in der Android-App), obwohl ich kein Pro hab. Probiere es einfach immer wieder und irgendwann, hast du es runtergeladen, wie du effektiv die Audios kopiert, weiß ich nicht, aber ich freue mich, das jemand den Kurs endlich übersetzt, sonst frag mal Memrise, ob sie Portuguese (Brazil) 1-7 mal in den Deutsch verfügbar machen.

Later in the thread:

The next step, of course, is to move the data from Anki to Excel, so that after you edit and add the German, you can bulk upload the data to your new Memrise course.

I just spent about 5 minutes testing how to export from Anki. You can get data that can be read in a spreadsheet by going to File > Export, Export format = Notes in plain text (*.txt), Include = {the name of the Memrise course you just imported}. The exported file won’t include the audio, but it will include the names of the audio files (a long string of random letters and numbers). Those audio files will probably be in your Documents folder, under Anki > {your-user-name} > collection.media.

If the course you want to translate has only a few hundred items, it’s probably faster to use Memrise Utilities, and then type in the missing information. If it’s longer, however, that it may be worth the hassle of learning how to get Anki and Memrise-to-Anki to do want you want…
