A stupid question about the French keyboard - capitals of specific letters?

So… how do I write a capital à or ç, for example, since pressing shift just gives the number that’s on that key? They cannot be lowercase-only, since one can start a sentence with them, albeit a colloquial one…

You mean you have a French physical keyboard? If you are on Mac, press alt + ç for Ç, ` (same key as £ but without shift) and then A for À. On Windows unfortunately I do not know
Best wishes.

Well, not a physical one that’s printed with French letters, I’ve just installed the Windows French layout. Unfortunately, Alt doesn’t help in Windows… But thanks!

This page should help you:

You will have to remember the codes of the relevant characters and type them while pressing alt.
Unfortunately it only works on a numeric keypad.

I can’t believe there is no simpler option, but at least this works, thanks!

For short reference, À is Alt + 0192, Ç is Alt + 128.
