The 125 Useful Verbs course lists あげる (to give) with the Kanji 上げる.
This confused me because I was under the impression 上げる (あげる) means to “raise” / “elevate”, and the dictionary checks out, with “To give” buried way down on the meanings list.
So, I checked with one of my language partners on Hello Talk and she said:
上げる (あげる) is to raise/elevate
あげる in Hiragana is to give (as well as raise/elevate)
EG:
わたしは花を（あなたに）あげる （or 贈る おくる）
I give you a flower
わたしはて（手）を上げる
I raise my hand
But isn’t this course entirely in Hiragana?
It has the kanｊi listed in the more details section for many of the verbs.

Richard, you are correct - that Kanji means to raise, not to give. It was added by a contributor - I have removed it now.
To add some extra insight here, あげる means to give (the speaker to someone else) and is informal. Japanese has may verbs meaning to give, usage depends on who is giving to who and the level of formality / politeness.

I’m running into an issue on this course where for multiple choice questions, I often get two variants of a verb: one with “to” and one without. (So, for example, “to make” and “make”). Would you mind if I were added as a contributor and attempted to fix this? I’m thinking this is probably related to the “phantom entries” issue, and I have a script for fixing this.
