Hello!
I’ve been floating around the forum here for a couple of days already so I figured it’s time to introduce myself. I am currently learning Turkish on Memrise (and also on duolingo + trying to read and watch stuff elsewhere) but will probably branch out to other languages that I find intriguing: Persian, Somali if someone makes a course with audio, Arabic, maybe Hindi. I have always been interested in languages but never really got very far in any of my attempts at learning something on my own outside of school. Especially Arabic is a language I’ve wanted to learn for 17 years but it’s kind of a steep learning curve in the beginning for someone who only knows Germanic languages so I’ve never really got past the stage where I learned to write my own name.
Germanic languages, then. I am a Swede and as you may have guessed from the fact that this is not translated using Google, I know English. I also learned German in school for five years and I know some Dutch… if it’s written. As some of you crazy language fans may know, Swedish is very similar to Norwegian and somewhat similar to Danish. I have no problem understanding Norwegian. Danish? Only if it’s written.
I am also currently studying physics and engineering at university so I guess you might add some programming languages and math to my list of languages. Or not, if you don’t consider them languages. I won’t be upset.

I’ve been using Memrise off and on for a couple years now and I recently got the Membrain achievement. I also use Duolingo and I am focusing on the Scandinavian languages. Right now, Swedish is the main thing I’m focusing on. I also am learning Japanese, but the learning on that is going a lot slower now that I’m not taking it in school.

I’m currently studying Tagalog and Cebuano and brushing up my French, Estonian and Swedish.

Hey, my name is Sinziana and I’m from Romania . At first I found out about Memrise from an article I read on Duolingo and because I was close to finnish the German tree in there I started to learn in here too. It’s really helpful and it’s somehow better than Duolingo, except for the fact that there are no speaking exercises. Besides that, good job team Memrise!

Hello all.
My name is Courtney, and my rank is Memonist. I am 18 years old, from United Kingdom and confused about my future. I also suffer from anxiety and depression. Therefore I left college (sixth form) early and am currently at home. I chose to learn Japanese. The best part about learning the language is that it helps me keep my mind off things that can trigger sadness and more. I can safely say. I’ve never enjoyed learning a language as much as I have with this one.
I can’t remember how I found memrise… I’m pretty sure it was by mistake. I originally got it on the App Store, though I’ve been using the website more recently.
I am learning Japanese and have been for a couple of months. It’s difficult, but I’m getting through it. I use a huge range of apps and websites to learn the language, so it’s not just memrise. Though memrise has proven to be the most useful website that I have come across.
I usually avoid forums because of my anxiety but I chose to write in here today.
I keep changing my profile picture and username, though I think my memrise account is this: http://www.memrise.com/user/yrxi/. My username used to be コートニー which is Courtney in Japanese.
Finally, I would like to thank memrise themselves. The people behind all of this… Thank you so much for helping me gain an interest in a language and help me stay interested. I remember when I first told my parents I was learning Japanese and their reaction was, “What, why?”. Of course I always reply, “A challenge and it’s fun.” to this day I still agree with what I originally said. I follow people who I believe are active, I’m very competitive so I like trying to get more points than my friends. 
When a friend gets a new rank, I whisper to myself, “congrats friend”. If there was a way to message them, I would.
Hehe, sorry I’ve written a lot and couldn’t stop myself. I’m still a young person who went to a terrible school. I didn’t get the opportunity to learn a language at school so I’m doing it now! Thanks for reading everyone, have a terrific week. xx

When you have used this forum for a while, you will unlock more ‘trust’ levels. The first one, “Basic Level”, will let you send personal messages to your friends on Memrise. Take a look at “Badges” under the

I’m Grace - I’ve been memrising since 2013. I am originally from London UK but I’ve been living in Hong Kong for the past 8 years. I work as an English teacher in a primary school
I’m a native English speaker, with a “get by” Cantonese level. I studied Mandarin for a couple of years at university but I’ll be darned if I can remember any of it now!
I’ve been interested in Japanese since I was very young and that’s the language I’m focusing on for Memrise. I love visiting Japan - it is very refreshing to be able to use the language and be understood (anyone learning Chinese will know that “knowing” Chinese, and being able to pronounce it in a way that is actually intelligible, are two VERY different things!)
As for English, I’m an amateur novelist - I have worked very hard over the years to improve my wordcraft! I am a member of writer’s circles on and offline and do a lot of work helping to edit the work of my peers. So even though I am a native English speaker, I am still in many ways learning my own language I enjoy taking on advanced English vocabulary courses to expand my English!
