I noticed that the text doesn’t fully overlap with the shadow text in the “difficult words” section ( I haven’t checked if this does it for other sections too) which makes it feel blurry and strains the eyes.
Hi. I just want to say I love that I can use numbers to solve exercises where you click to build phrases. It’s very convenient that I can do a lot without moving away from the numpad.
I just discovered this too.
Edit: it needs to work for the typing exercises for Languages most users won’t have the keyboard to: like Japanese or Chinese for example.
Is it possible to have the number selection appear on accents and letters in typing exercises?

I think other people may have pointed this out but it would be nice to have anything that is marked as Always Show appear in the Speed Reviews! I can only use the app for Speed Reviews right now because of this.

Where did mems go? The mnemonics I used from memrise are still in my head, years after I last tried to learn a language. I now have to search the web for mnemonics to help me again, why would you remove such a good, community driven feature?
I dislike how the pages will automatically change to the next one after some time, I went to click “next” (the green button) and it switched to the next page and it made me click “I don’t know” instead. A bit annoying.
I started to use Memrise (web version) for learning Japanese 7 months ago and I am now a N3 student, but the new beta is not efficient to learn a new language in fact. In the previous version, to complete learning a word, i will go through the following:
- read the wording
- make a mems for myself
- listen the words again and again
however new layout is totally different, and the efficient is much lower than the original mehtod. Is there a chance that we may have a option to use the Beta Speed Review with the Original “Learn New Word” / “Difficult Review”?? instead of all section in Beta??

Big Problem for me.
The words I get incorrect on the speed review don’t reappear on my “to review” list, meaning, the words I struggle with aren’t dealt with and disappear back into the algorithm for another couple days.

Hi there, Thanks for working at Memrise all the time! I am a paying user for many years now!
I have three questions about the beta version:
- When I learn new words, 5 at the time, the programm always comes with the 5th word apart at the end, while the 4 first words are nicely mixed. I wonder if you can fix that?
- I ask myself if the algorithm for when you have to repeat a word, or when it has to be on my ‘difficult’ words list has been changed. It does not seem to work as efficiently as it did?
- And most annoyingly: in the old version, when I was reviewing words, there was a button to get back to the original list of words (I am the creator of this list) if I want to adjust something, or add something.
And there still is no search-function in the lists when you have many levels (as I have) so I can never ever find this word. I would most appreciate if you could fix this. The search function is a long time wish of mine.

Hello. I’d like to point out that in the Beta version of Speed Review, selecting the proper card on Japanese courses doesn’t appear to show the extra information, such as the reading of the characters like Kanji, in the same way the the old version of Memrise’s Speed Review does.
I really appreciated this feature because it allowed me to refresh my memory on how some characters were read, and it’d be a great loss if that were removed from this newer version.

first of all: thank you for the app and all the features! I have been learning Japanese with the beta-version for several months now and it really pays off.
As for improving the algorithms (potentially):
- As mentioned by Zwanetta, the algorithm for the difficult words list is somewhat odd, I think. I just completed a run and the words I knew correctly are due in 12 days. To me that seems rather long for a word I struggled with.
- Learning Japanese comes with new characters. However, for any inquired word in a learning cycle, the order of the given characters does not change between the several repetitions within that cycle. I find myself remembering the position of the character rather than what the word actually was. If you could make the algorithm jumble the characters up after every answer given that would be fantastic.

Edit: One addition to the difficult words topic: After today’s run all five words remained in the difficult words section, despite me having answered all questions correctly. The words are now due in 50 to 180 days.
Hey, there seems to be a problem with the audio recording. Sound just doesn’t play and clicking the speaker icon or pressing r does nothing.
Learn with locals video seems to work for now, but some audio exercises are broken.
It looks like they are waiting for the next Chrome update to come up with a fix. For the time being, using non-Beta version might be fine for you.

Hi there - there are a few features from the regular version of Memrise that seem quite different in the beta version:
- I don’t seem to be prompted to review words as frequently as before. This makes it harder to embed the words in long term memory.
- When learning and reviewing it seems to ask me less frequently to write out the words from memory. With more multiple choice/put the words in the right order I don’t find I’m learning the words as well.
- After learning a set of words, I can’t find a link that will take me back to the main course page if I want to skip to a different leve.

I just found out I’m missing out on grammar lessons, because those are absent from the web version. What a shame. I hope they’ll be included in the future.
I can’t use an app version, because I’m trying to go without the google marketplace app which is needed for the memrise app to work.
I’m also hoping mems come back. I still remember stuff I saw back in 2017. Mems work.

They probably don’t have any desktop programs.
It’d be cool if you could download a working memrise APK from the website like you do with whatsapp or telegram messengers, but I get if they can’t do it because of how payment works.
sucks to miss out on content as a paying costumer because I don’t use the app… Hope they add the missing content to web soon.
Funny how it’s the opposite of Duolingo where the web version is most content rich.

Dark mode?
Will the listening task be included in all courses? I’m deaf and I struggle to hear the voices, so can there be an option on all courses to not have the listening tasks involved?

Not sure if it’s due to a new beta version, but in the updated review session timer starts right after opening the session, even if the review session was opened in a background window.
It is annoying. The reason why I open the review sessions is because it’s quicker to go through the list of courses once (it takes time to load them) and open all the review sessions with words to be reviewed.
In the past, there was not timer or timer started after you moved to to the background tab to start reviewing, now the timer starts right after the window is opened. Thus, first word in each tab is automatically “not answered”, since by the time I open all tabs timer runs up in each of those tabs.
Alternative method is to open one course at a time. This method wastes notable amount of time.
[This issue seems to be addressed] Also, in the past, if I went through the web review session, the course moved up in the “recently learned” interface. Now, it doesn’t.
One more thing, in the past I think in the tab name you could see name of the course related to the tab. Now any such practice session has not very informative title “Garden - Memrise”
