[Userscript] Memrise Auto Learn

How do you enable it?

Canā€™t try it out right now, but AFAIR you should see an option to the far left of the browser window during a learning session.

I installed it on many different browsers. It says that it is enabled etc and even that red box with the #1 in it. It doesnā€™t work though, and I need to get my homework done. Can someone please help me? Or tell me if this is still working or not? Or what I am supposed to do? Thanks!

I just tried this out. It seems you have to turn off both The new Memrise experience (Beta) in ā†’ your profile settings and Turn on Memrise Labs experiments in ā†’ your learning settings.

Once I did that, the scriptā€™s Auto Learn link appeared again on the top left of the page. However, while I was still able to toggle auto-learning by hitting F2, the script no longer showed an indication, so something else probably changed as well.
Tested on Firefox only.

@cooljingle: any chance you could take a look at your scriptā€™s code?
@MemriseSupport: any idea as to what might have changed that broke the script?

Honestly, itā€™s quite bad that Memrise doesnā€™t have this feature.

https://www.spanishdict.com/vocabulary does this very well. It gives you vocabulary to review, and if you donā€™t know it, it will give you the answer, then bring up the word many more times, and put it up for review.

I actually think thatā€™s a better approach that Memrise should adopt. In the learning process, we should be able to guess the word, and if we get it right, it should skip the presentation of the word and mark it as ā€˜Learnedā€™ straight away and add it to the review queue, then proceed to the next word.

Hi,

Unfortunately we canā€™t comment or provide further assistance on userscripts.

However, given the popularity of this thread, weā€™ve now created a feature request ticket that weā€™ll raise to the relevant team for further consideration. :slightly_smiling_face:

I hope this helps for now.

Best wishes,
A.

I really hope this is made to work with the new Beta, as no doubt soon the Beta will be live and the old version will have gone.

As will me using Memrise. Iā€™m not wasting hours of my life ā€œlearningā€ things I know.

Looks like some UI changes on memrise might have hidden the auto learn status text. Iā€™ve updated the script so you can see it again:
auto-learn

you can update by clicking here

Itā€™s working again, albeit only when all beta-features have been turned off. But I suppose it isnā€™t worth putting work into making it beta-compatible as long as the layout can change ā€¦

Thanks! :+1:t4: :clap:t4:

Unfortunately there are a lot of breaking changes with the beta so thereā€™s no way to migrate the scripts to work with it.

Hereā€™s hoping memrise continues to let users access the ā€˜classicā€™ version so they can keep using the scripts.

I found the issue of that error you were getting - should be fixed now in version 0.0.15 :+1:

Hi @ale_c, just in case you didnā€™t know, many years ago it was possible for every user to modify the URL from learn (?) to auto_learn (?) like a creator can, and that would auto learn.

However, given the popularity of this thread, weā€™ve now created a feature request ticket

Incidentally is there a ticket to regenerate alternatives and eliminate Phantom (ie uncorrected) entries?
That would be so useful.

hey! i donā€™t think it works now. can you check your code?

All userscripts got broken with new website, and it seems that itā€™s not an easy task to rework them for that, if possible at all.

oh, okay. thank you

What happened? The addon worked for months, but in the last weeks just doesnā€™t do anything. I reinstalled but still doesnā€™t work. Can somebody help me?

Memrise had an update in January and the update unfortunately broke userscripts. The script will only start working again if @cooljingle or somebody else updates it.

Hi all!

I decided to put together a short ~25 line auto-learn script here:

To use it you will need to first disable tapping tests and audio tests in the learning settings.

I hope it helps someone. :slightly_smiling_face:

Not as ideal as the script that @cooljingle made, but I guess I can use this and then learn the actual words during the speed review. Thanks for the effort

@benjenkinsv95 I donā€™t know if Iā€™m doing something wrong, but the script gets caught on typing tests. Perhaps there is a way to disable them.
