User-Created Global Leaderboard II

Btw, there are some other overloads, for example extremedream, he has more than 300.000.000!

Yes, we are intentionally not including that user. He has 30,000 points per word learned. We will also exclude anyone who seems to earning points by means such as your points-farming course. This thread is about a community-built leaderboard.

So overkilling the review goes against some form of edicate? I’m at 23,000 per word myself.

Let’s just say that in most cases an unusually high points/word ratio can be a useful indication that a member has been using Memrise for something other than learning and reviewing words. If a user is doing something completely different with the software, I wouldn’t necessarily say what they are doing is an “etiquette violation”, but it doesn’t belong in the same rating system. If a user really wants to earn 31 million points in a course with 159 words, well, whatever. I’m not sure what they are doing or why, but it isn’t a form of language learning that anyone should want to emulate, praise, admire, or bother compiling into a leaders list.

The discussion above from Neko-chan and Kaspian indicates that the 4000 points/word cut-off was perhaps too low. Maybe 5000 is a better cut-off. Maybe some other number.

You’re specific example I agree, but let’s look at my ratio which is about 4 times over the proposed cap. I do speed review while watching movies and doing cardio. I think it helps response time and retention. It also has the effect of shooting up my word to point ratio. There’s also the inevitability of breaking this threshold with courses I’ve had for over a year if I keep up on review. There are also months where i focus on learning grammar, or practicing drawing kanji in other programs where i stop learning new words here and only do review. This will have the same effect.

I’m no real threat to the top people list, but I don’t consider what i’m doing to be a waste of time or cheating. Do you think people who take my approach shouldn’t be counted?

@Monomatic - It’s possible you missed a few zeros when you did the math… When I look at your profile, I see 23.3 million points and 10,800+ items learned. That makes your points-per-word ratio around 2150, which is well within the realm of normal Memrise use…

Rechecked it and you’re right, I screwed that up. My bad, disregard my objection. Guess it pays to double check this stuff.

Thanks for creating this list. I was pretty annoyed when Memrise got rid of the top secret leaderboard (even if it did include known cheaters), so having this and in an easier to access place is helpful.

yep I was thinking about 5000 points per word limit too… but 6000 points/word limit would mean that we include HFGW

All time Top-72 as of Jan 18 4:00pm UTC. Accounts with the ratio points/words = 5000 or less have been included. I added several new names from Kaspian’s list, from Arete_Hime’s link and some other sources.

Thank you for the list! I think there are also other users not so far in top and are interested in a longer list.

Add DarthJen 62,400,000

Test… Let’s see if I activated my account correctly. … I’ve been reading this thread with interest, but my location on the planet makes it most difficult to do much of anything constructive.

Should you fine folks find it of help, my list of “those I’m following” is the present top 200+ list. It is quite accurate, save for a few I personally do not feel merit their position. Of course this also omits myself, for one cannot follow oneself. Those I’ve omitted can be found in a second option held as a list of ‘those following’ by @amokacsi2. My apologies if I should not have included the gentleman’s moniker.

I personally found it of easiest solution to merely “follow” whatever number of people you choose, and then edit out by preference (all are welcome to use my list if you would like). Result? You’ll have a consistently up-to-date global leaderboard as it evolves on a daily basis.

Cheers!

It’s nice to have something to give

The list I have may be missing a couple of names in the 41-43 million point range. But nobody’s perfect, so I guess I’m not a nobody. … :sunglasses:

Awesome. Add RichardBoone around #94.

yep I already have RichardBoone and he is #94 now but he was not yesterday when I was making the list. He probably practiced a lot last night.
