Typing tests turned off (again)

Same as a couple of months ago, I don’t get to type any answers where there are more than 2 words. It was ok 12 hours ago, no good this morning. Total waste of my time using Memrise with no typing. Please fix asap.

We’re sorry that this wasn’t mentioned in the release notes.

This was an intentional change in how Memrise Official courses work.
When creating Memrise courses we’ve had feedback that this would be the optimal way of presenting tests so that there is a good balance between fairness and challenge, when learning a new language.

Community courses will not be affected by this change to allow for more flexibility and creativity to our community course creators.

For more information you can see the release notes: Memrise Release Notes - 16 Feb 2017 - Updated

‘A good balance between fairness and challenge’ ?? What a load of tosh. Try to get this through your heads. Without typing you learn nothing. And anyone who thinks they are are kidding themselves.
It’s the end for me using Memrise courses. And what a pity because the content was good and it helped me a lot.

This explanation should have been included in the release note (or in a cross-referenced post in the “Announcements” section).

What proportion of total users provided the feedback that removing typing tests from Memrise-created courses for phrases longer than 15 characters which convinced you that removing them would result in the optimal way of presenting tests? A similar change was tried last year but abandoned (I believe) because many users complained.

For me, tapping tests and multiple choice tests do not provide enough challenge when learning phrases.

I now have to make a decision whether to drop Memrise-created courses or learn how to add userscripts to make those courses relevant. That can’t be what you intended, surely?

Wow. This is superduperduperdisappointing. I don’t understand why there just can’t be an option to turn off the typing tests. I am so seriously bummed out.

‘A good balance between fairness and challenge’ !!!
Guys, this proved the level of professionalism in memrise is not as what we thought, as a customer I am very disappointed. because it seems they are so adamant about this change and don’t want to show flexibility (at least they could make this optional by adding it to their settings).

I have canceled my renewal with a hope that this problem get sorted. otherwise there is no point paying something that does not give me any value. such a shame.

Thanks to the Memrise All Typing script from @cooljingle and everyone else who has made such constructive contributions to this issue. I have been able to install the script on my PC (Firefox and Windows 10) and it works beautifully.
I tried to inject this same userscript into Firefox on Android using the UIS addon, and it doesn’t work - way beyond my knowledge base to know why. I would appreciate any suggestions, maybe it is something simple.
Meanwhile, anchored to my desk at home, I will finish off the Memrise courses I have started. I can work on all the other great Memrise courses while roaming. Or at least until Memrise makes another ‘adjustment’.
