Turbo/Speed Review is Unavailable on all Courses on IOS

When can this be fixed?

Hi there, can we please get some response on this?

I am only seeing speed review as a Pro item. Is this intended?

I’ve only just switched from Android and it’s not the case there.

I’m also seeing other post where speed review is not available even when some users are Pro.

I’m stopping using the app until some response, as the benefits of using this app fall away greatly without the speed review for recall purposes.

Does anyone even read these posts?

I came here to ask the same question.
It would be nice if the Speed Review would be also available on iOS.

Dear Memrise Team, I have the same problem.

The option doesn’t available for some courses in app (but is available for another). I have PRO version.

You can see the screen. Should I reinstall the app or what?

@BeaTrisy; @lurkmoophy (sorry to bother You, not sure whom to cotact, who from team is bug-related) In addition to the stated above

Now - In iOS assuming I am talking about Memrise official courses now

it let me fast-review only those words, which are not watered.

In case I have reviewed all the words in the course, the “red” - fast review is completly unavailable. That is different from both web and Android app.

*As such fast review is hardly usable, because going through unwatered items with fast review would mess up with their timetable of reiteration (I mean the timimg when they will come next time and for how many points it will be).

*As such it is best to avoid fast review of unwatered items and go through it only when all items-due are reviewed.

Not to mention in other courses (as written above by others - true for me too) it seems it is no loger available at all. It is as if the fast review is available only for “official” courses now (?) … and with unlogical limitation on top of it.

This seems to be like a bug, or at least it has different functionality from Android app.

IS THIS FEATURE OR BUG?

OFFICIAL Memrise courses look like this (nr. of blue and red matching)

!

Anything Else look like this: Red unavailable at al.:

!
!

It seems to be intended that it is only available on the official courses on iOS and only for pro accounts.

Thank You Marcus. I thought it the case. :frowning: … as a result I downgraded my Memrise experience just by migrating from Android phone to iOS phone.

I do not understand the logic behind…

Not even Pro membership helps…

But what bugs me (and that is still the unanswered part of my Q anbove) is, why even in the courses, where it is present, it is so useless (?)

And that is what I would see to be bug … why are words available for “red” speed review only limited to those available for “blue” watering review?

In order for this feature to be of comparable usability to us to the blue review is, we would need to be able go speedily through much bigger amount of words than we do in the normal “writing”/“choosing” blue exercise

And this under-featured option is limited only for {ProUser/Official course} combination?

If someone switches from Android to iOS and the same feature – Speed review - is missing, then this is a serious problem that should be fixed. You need to be consistent across all platforms. Especially as it’s available on the Web browser with the non-paid service.

…maybe time to flag this at the iOS app store as feedback…

I’ve switched from Android to iOS version, I’m a pro user and the experience is much better on android OS. Can you please explain the difference and when iOS version will be as good as Android’s one? If not, I will resign from my pro subscription!!
The biggest difference is related to speed review for which there is no audio feedback on iOS version (whereas there is on Android version as you could guess) which is very annoying for languages like Korean which are very difficult to pronounce.
An official answer from Memrise would be highly appreciated…
thanks

That is right - on Android there is. And it is important to me, too. Though, if the recording is bad and has a long silence before it, then not so much. But anyway, it should be there. Is it by any chance not turned of in settings somehow? You never know…

well, I’ve checked and didn’t find any place where I could set this on or off… Any idea?
There is only 1 feature on iOS version which is quite cool: the AR camera feature which allows to explore the world around and find right away the translation in 18 languages

As the Android speed review works differently (better) than the speed review on the web portal (web = [almost] unusable) you could also use an Android emulator like KOPlayer, Bluestacks, NOX, etc. to the get Memrise Android app running again on your computer (e.g Laptop).

I know, this is not the real solution for your IOS app problem, if you want to use your smartphone when you are away from home, but at least it is a temporary workaround.

I agree web portal is just awful and instead of putting ressource on this, they should probably reconsider the priority on the iOS version and combine most useful features from both mobile platforms…
Anyway, thanks for the workaround with an Android emulator on a computer

the app is not just awful but terrible and they should probably reconsider… etcetc

do you notice anything?

Sorry, but you are definitely quoting me quite WRONG!
I NEVER said this.

I explicitely said: The “speed review” function on the web portal is IMHO unusable.

I do not use “speed review” for normal blue (regular) reviews within the SR interval period anyways…maybe the Android “speed review” is just useful for alternative over-watering as “speed review” is:

  • strictly based on multiple-choice
  • with the ticking timer you have no time to read through 4-8 longer sentences (e.g offical 1-7 + PT BR Basic courses)
  • and if you guess the word to pass the speed review, you might hardly be able to RECALL the word (false positive) even the SR interval is pushed forward
  • speed review might help to get a huge backlog down after illness or vacation
  • the normal / blue review (e.g "all typing script activated, multiple-choice deactivated) now supports over-watering with up to 150 points

I only used the Android for learning new words (there is not that big difference in planting the flower in six steps on the app vs the web portal), but I only use the web portal for SR reviews within the intervals.

I like the speed review though as a way of extra watering both on Android and the web. But now and then I have a false positive. Doing speed review can get these out, because the second time you probably guess wrong.
