Te is not you in French - please remove from French 1.
Umm, I believe that te is ‘you’ (object)…
For example: Je te donne un cadeau. (I give you a present.)
In that sentence yes. But when it is refered to as you in French 1 for beginners it is confusing. I am a native French speaker.
Only because in English ‘you’ can be used as a subject pronoun (twice), object pronoun and indefinite personal pronoun. So it shouldn’t be removed but the type of pronoun should be mentioned / explained.
maybe one should point this out in the right thread? [Course Forum] French 1-7 by Memrise
(the main page of these fora has a search function: i gave in “french memrise” and found the right thread, also the same with “french official”)
Hi,
Thank you very much.
I tried that link and it takes me back exactly where I left my message Is there a special way to leave a message in the forum?
Kind regards,
Christine Capitaine
The course is French 1 for beginners. Te is something learnt later. Maybe toi should be taught at this stage. Also when Memrise asks the French for you, it doesn’t specify if it wants the tu or the te. So you are more likely to get it 50 % incorrect. I am French and I do not know which one they want. Even more confusing for my students.
Yup, this needs to be marked in some way!
All that needs to be done is to put the words “indirect object” or something like that and then it would be clear which one you need to write.
