Poll: what do you think of Decks?

I am missing fundamentally important option, along the line:

  • I agree with a move to fully supported Decks + apps; I am against the move to unsupported Decks

@isharr should we make an official poll. Like the one for Ziggy. as Memrise is BLIND to what the users think. They may listen.

Wow, those poll results so far. I’ve never seen such a harmonous consensus in a community.

You could make an ‘official’ poll… but let’s be fair, people seem pretty clear on this as is. Even thirty-forty votes on here, an ordinarily quiet forum, says an awful lot.

I really don’t think they’ll listen no matter how many votes you get against their plans on here because D*cks is just a pacification tactic – it’s not us they’re actually interested in; it’s all the app users who’ve never visited the forum or website, don’t know the community courses exist yet are still paying them for their ‘service’. I imagine that’s the market they hold interest for now and we’re just making a mess of the place and cramping their (admittedly questionable) style. Even if everyone who spoke out this last week on the community cancelled their membership, it probably wouldn’t touch them.

Sad times.

The only way for them to reconsider is that Decks fail when it launch and Memrise lose a lot of revenue.

ahem, how would you know that 99,99%??? “official”?

how can you hate something you never saw?

Stamping your feet does not help.

You maybe want to say, maybe: “I hate that Decks has no app with offline mode”, “I am afraid that community courses will vanish into thin air?”???

So far, there isn’t a single vote in favor of Decks. And considering the fact that many members have already cancelled their pro memberships because of this change, it’s hard to understand why Memrise is still going through with it.

Yeah. It’s odd that even when they see that no-one in any polls created are voting in favour of Decks. They’re just acting like nothing’s happening… When we are all trying to have our say on the matter. But alas, Memrise ignores our plea for not releasing Decks. Let’s just stay optimistic and hope they eventually change their mind. :pensive:

I imagine that memrise has already paid for the web domain and such, so it would be a gigantic waste of money to bail on it now

In this forum it’s 99%.We did not see Decks but they already did an FAQ.People want the offline mode but they clearly said it’ll will never happen.

I feel like they’ll lose even more money because of the cancelled premium account.

Pretty much 90% of their Pro users are cancelling, that’s a huge loss for Memrise…

Where’d you get that statistic from?

on this forum indeed. But: compare the approx. 35 million users Memrise has with the number of clicks on the FAQ Decks links, or the number of answers in the polls in here, for example… ahem, no comment… unfortunately

(i do agree, taking community courses off the app did “help” this situation - i.e. of course it was part of the larger strategy, that was carried more or less without informing in here about the “general picture” etcetcetc: But, and I repeat myself, the company needs control over the profitable product, and that means separation of in-house from community-created, this is an absolutely logical decision)

Since he said of us I think his talking about the forum only.
35 million users Memrise
35 millions users but how many are active?I introduced memrise to 5 people all off them stopped using it within one month.
the number of clicks on the FAQ Decks links
I read the FAQ but I won’t use Decks.
Why would you include people you know nothing about in the equation. We don’t know there opinions.Based on the opinion I read over the internet the % of people against it right now is 99%.
They could push official courses without separating community and official courses they would avoid the cost of building deck, cancelled membership and few users lost.
The stats are weak what’s a lot more important than the number of users using official courses vs number of users is who’s categories is using the website+app more frequently. So I don’t see this as a logical decision.

I think it’s true that hardcore users (anyone learning mostly user created staff) are outnumbered by ordinary users (beginners or tourists who are learning only official courses).

Let’s do some rough math. My wild guess is that Memrise audience is about 10 million users per month. If the rate is about 1 to 20 then there are 500 thousand hardcore users. Split that number in half (for desktop and mobile users) and we have 250 thousand folks. Assuming that one in ten is willing to pay 10 euros annualy Memrise can raise 250.000 euros per year to support this project. Though it’s a big number, but by all appearances this is not enough. Let’s not forget about goddamn taxes and everything.

Well, you can put in your own numbers, that’s only my guess. It’s interesting to know real data though, maybe @kevin5284 and @edcooke can enlighten us all.

250k is enough to hire two engineers to fix stuff.

Wow. 125 voters so far. I’m impressed with this reaction. Surely by now shouldn’t they see that people don’t want change.
