After your first sarcastic post (is that the right word, whatevs), I interpreted the smileys in your later posts to be sarcastic in nature as well. If you say they weren’t so intended: sorry.
I’m not a moderator. This forum is too tame to need a moderator anyway, besides removing spam, most of the time. All the ‘leaders’ and in a little while the ‘regulars’ do is some housekeeping, moving threads, renaming topics and the like. At least that’s my interpretation of the thing.
Let’s say I didn’t like some of the posts in a discussion, I would flag them and let Memrise deal with them. And if I was an active participant in a heated discussion, I would be best if I left any ‘moderation’, like closing the topic, to someone else.
esteemed @Arete_Hime, you performed the first “drift”. In my humble opinion, an ugly drift: you attacked directly, openly, etc my choice of posting an otherwise rather innocent Spanish course for criminology/criminal law/forensics terminology etc in here… It is not the first time you try to intimidate and even stigmatise me on Memrise, and, as I know you already, probably not the last one. It is your choice of communication, but that does not mean you have a right to throw with “pointers” around as you like…
But, in fact, I don’t really get it, why and where from are the trolling accusations coming from??? (and sorry for my Germanic/Chinesy syntax…)
Maybe the off-topic banter is better moved to a new topic Hydroptere & Arete_Hime at it Again or something.
@Hydroptere, yes we will continue to clash I expect. You (or anyone) write something wrong or lacking empathy, and I kindly offer my time to curtly point out the mistakes in what you wrote, for your benefit and any subsequent readers. Then you misinterpret what I wrote to be a personal attack perhaps. Your time would be better spent considering the different opinion and how that different opinion came about, and perhaps changing your own opinion. If you write something, be prepared to have it challenged. If you write something ignorant, like gamification doesn’t work, without backing that statement up, be prepared to have it challenged curtly.
This thread isn’t a typical example of our interactions, as my first post was not very considered in questioning why you would want to make a course like that, as it is your prerogative to make any course you like. Sorry for that. That said, it is your choice to interpret that post positively (as an opportunity to teach why the course is needed and who would benefit), neutrally (as a request for more information) or negatively (as an attack on you).
it is true, the Atlantic published much reactionary right wing hysteria in its long history. However, this one article summarizes a long (and hysterical) discussion … as not to spend too much time with a lately misguided “debate”, a summary
you already know this by now - about “oh, a nacked child! that’s forbidden, delete it delete it!” (with the mention that there is nothing more mainstream, and (pseudo) politically correct than The Guardian)
