Memrise Release Notes - 16 Feb 2017 - Updated

ok too bad, then there’s a bug, on my iphone it works perfectly fine

Another option is to use the “ignore” feature whenever Memrise presents you with material with no learning value.

Memrise has a long history of choosing not to respond to forum complaints and feature suggestions. Year after year, many members are upset with that. I’m neither defending nor criticizing that, just recognizing it.

That’s douchy of them, very douchy… specially considering their cooler-than-thou attitude

I think that is overly dramatic. I’m sure there is some little learning value in just recognising – just not as much as you would like.

In the end, though, I imagine Memrise’s goal is to keep users coming back to the site – whether they actually learn anything or not is irrelevant to Memrise.

“whether they actually learn anything or not is irrelevant to Memrise” - Well if you don’t learn anything, why would you come back? Okay, maybe they aim to maximize the conversion rate, let’s say the average user buys pro after X weeks, now they try to maximize the percentage of users who come back after X weeks.

But later on it will be counterproductive. To learn, I need to make mistakes, and now Memrise doesn’t let me to make mistakes. Of course, it is really annoying when you make a typo in a longer item and the review cycle starts over again - but then they should add a “It was a typo” button, and that’s all…

I recommend the all-typing user script, it is a good workaround. Even better for learning longer items as you must type them from the first occurrence.

I’m disappointed by this change. Please restore the typing tests or make them available as an option. Testing recall is important to learning. I feel the multiple choice questions by themselves are too easy, and don’t help me commit phrases to memory.
