How long is a "Learning Streak"? 365 days?

Seriously @alanh - don’t worry. I’m sure you’ve got much better things to do!

Hi again MD,

It’s OK, it only took a few minutes to add up the numbers  I went to cut the grass for most of the time I’ve been away :frowning:

Here goes:

  • As at today, the “last 365 days” covers the period 6 July to 4 July (it’s a leap year this year).

  • Your break from 27 March to 2 May = 37 days (5+30+2). So, your current “Total” in the last 365 days is 365 – 37 = 328

  • Your ”Best” streak (during the last 365 days) was the period starting on 6 July to 26 March (the start of your break) = 265 days (26+31+30+31+30+31+31+29+26)

  • Your “Current” streak is the period starting on 3 May (the first day after your break) to 4 July = 63 days (29+30+4)

  • Thinking about your earlier “Best” streak of 365 days on (and before) 27 January, that would make perfect sense. You achieved the [magical] 365 sometime before that date and then didn’t have any breaks until 27 March. So, the “365” would have remained your “Best” streak and would have just kept rolling over until the start of your break. :nerd:

I realise now that I confused things in my earlier reply by suggesting you may have had a break in October because I was mistaking your “Best” streak for “Current” streak. Sorry! :disappointed:

Really interesting @alanh.

I see you agree with :
Total in last 365 days = 328
Current streak (from starting again) as 63
But you are saying that the best streak is the best in the last 365 days = 265
So all those agree with what MD has shown on her home page.

Sad really as I would suggest that MD’s best streak (ever) should be recorded as 365, which she had previously.

After all, once one stops learning on a single course streak with a score of say 100 days (as in my case) it stays as a record and badge.

Can we throw this back to the MemRise team to reconsider what a Best Streak is? @Lien & @Joshua, please? (See bold above)

Hmmm. But will that only be the case so long as the 100 days (which earned the badge) remains within the last 365 day period which Memrise uses for its stats? I really don’t know. Time will tell, I guess.

That does make sense. Actually sometime after I said to you “don’t worry about it”, without me studying the numbers, so to speak, I thought it would have something to do with the “365 days”. Onward and upward. Thanks for your efforts!

It’s still so annoying isn’t it that continuous streaks only hold for one course. Hopefully I haven’t opened another can of worms raising that again!!!

What are you all talking about? Mine shows 390 days, and I am very proud!!

Hi @YingBing0da9,

Mine shows 390 days, and I am very proud!!

Well done!

There are two counters. I suspect you are talking about the number of days on a single course which can increase until you run out of words.

There is another counter, “Leaning Steak” or “Current Streak” (“Your learning history for the last 365 days”) which may only be available to “pro” members.

This is the greatest number of consecutive days in a YEAR (hence 365) seen on MemRise .

By this reckoning I may have reached TWO years!

This can be achieved by answering just one question on any course each day, although in practice it could be many questions on many courses but not confined to a single one.

This to many of us is a bigger commitment than to a single course - some of which are so short it is impossible to stay with it for that long. (I reached 100+ days and ran out of words.)

Sadly there is NO recognition (or badge) for this achievement of a year.

Well, i created my own course and i am adding new words everyday as well as keeping up with my streak, this way you are sure that you can adding your new words up to infinite and never loose the streak!
That is also pretty motivating.

I made a iterative reminder which alarms every day on 11:30 pm that i have only half an hour to keep my streak!

One more vote for the 1-year badge here! :+1:t4: (and 2-year…):smiley:

Unless I am mistaken although the learning streak of 365 is still shown, the maximum streak achieved on any one course is no longer shown on our home page - only against each course.

Yes, true, but you can still view the max streak budget in the Android app.
v2.9_3947 to be precise.

Why are there different streak counters in the app and on the site?
My current streak is 89 according to the website and increases each day, and the app shows a longest streak of 53 (iPad and iPhone) and it doesn’t increase - as if I’ve had a break in the last 53 days.
Same login on both, I’ve reinstalled the app, same result. It doesn’t seem to be course-specific either as it shows the same number for different courses.
(PS. wasn’t sure whether this belongs in this topic or should be a new question… I can move it).

Hi @mike27827, Not sure is you are referring to a course streak (not covered by this topic) or consecutive days of learning.

It might be a bug and worth reporting there or raised as a parallel thread.

Hope it gets sorted for you.

Hi DW7, it’s the overall consecutive days streak, as per the screenshots in this thread. I’ll separate it out into a new question.
Edit: Posted as new question here: link
