I had a problem with a course (Japanese 1 by Memrise) and looked for a resultion in the forums, where I found mentions that there had been an update and the old version would no longer be supported. Now, the Memrise app on my phone recommends that I start choose “Japanese 1” by Memrise: https://i.imgur.com/V6YZ9SK.png
Meanwhile the website recommends that I should choose “Japanese 1” by Memrise: https://i.imgur.com/tqYHdTS.png
It’s a similar situation with “Mandarin Chinese 1” by Memrise, where I’ve found 3 versions so far. Unfortunately I can’t link the courses due to forum limits.
Now I’m guessing that one of those “Japanese 1” courses is the new one and the other one outdated, but I can’t find any mentions of it in their description. How can I avoid starting an outdated course? Is there a list of the newest versions somewhere?
Oh wait my bad. Looks like they’re completely different courses. I think the ones with the portrait pictures and not street displays are the newer ones, since they’re the first three course suggestions that show up when you go to ‘Japanese’ on the web Memrise course list. That being said Atikker probably knows more about this than I do. Just my take
Hi, thanks for the hint, but the situation has not changed. I installed all updates (2.9_3933_memrise), logged out and logged back in. https://i.imgur.com/dBhLffG.png Thanks for giving me something to work with in the case of the Japanese course (choose the one with the blossoms).
However i don’t believe that this really is a problem with the app. I’m now subscribed to three different “Mandarin Chinese 1 by Memrise” courses. They all have the same thumbnail and none of them have any indication on which one might be the most recent one.
Newer courses for German too. Assuming it’s the same with most memrise flagship courses. Seems redundant tho, could’ve just added the slight improvements to the already established courses. Or at least change thumbnails so we know for sure they’re different courses as with Japanese.
I didn’t consider that there could be a difference between courses in British English and American English, thanks for noticing it.
I suppose the way to go for now is to work with the course id. It’s a rather clunky way of doing it, but i prefer not posting such a seemingly trivial question every time i’m interested in a course. You don’t happen to know if there’s a “last updated on …” text or something similar in the courses?
you can always ask this kind information from official course forum threads. Memrise language specialist are answering there (they are the ones responisible for memrise’s courses)
