How do I deselect multiple choice questions, and make it text/writing only?

When I have an option of 6 translations, sometimes I get lazy and get the correct answer from recognition.

However, I know I haven’t learned it - as when I try to type it, I get it wrong.

Is there an option to turn off multiple choice, and make it write-only?

Unfortuntaly, in Memrise, the user cannot really choose what test types the (Classic) Review presents, e.g. only typing as you want or only multiple choice. (Audio can be turned off though).

However, if you are using the web, Cooljingle has made a nice script, for which you can find the instructions and discussions in Memrise All Typing. It’s a bit technical to install the script, but it does pay off.

BTW: I have noticed that even though I might sometimes select words by recognition during review, in the end I am getting to know the word. Also, I’ll make too many mistakes along the way, and the word ends up in Difficult words. The result is that the word gets hammered in anyway, though the process stretches over a longer time period.

Definitely install the Cooljingle script – it’s absolutely worth it. On advice, I did it last week and, though it’s now taking me a little longer to get through modules, I’m learning them a lot more thoroughly. Not noticed any bugs yet.

Thanks! This is so much better, I was surprised how much I couldn’t remember, despite completing some of the courses.

Would definitely recommend Memrise to make this an option on their website. Multiple choice is good for single words, but really doesn’t help for learning sentences.

Already a few people have made a feature request regarding this:
Feature Request: no multiple choice.
Feature request: typing, not tiling - #4 by Frank_Bb53.
[Feature Request] Re-open the typing function for full sentence.
For the APP I cannot use the script after all. And they added ‘Learn with the Locals’ and so. This seems to me much easier to implement.

This is together with ‘stop the timer’ the most requested feature that comes back, again and again. If so many people ask it…

Agreed.

For full sentences on my German course, I was remembering some by a single word because… well, apparently my brain got lazy with it. The only downside for me is the lack of accented letters appearing underneath the input box – so now I have a German layout keyboard installed, which is very confusing (but, at least, has all the letters I need).
