anyone else wanting to use that link just change the text after /u/ in the link to your own username

Oh, thanks, I wouldn’t have known that feature exists if you hadn’t said it. It’s not easy to find if you don’t know to look for it.

Sorry I was doing some other some stuff when I answered that one. And it doesn’t even work for me.
What @NiaTheCat said. Your PM’s are inside user_archive.csv

Thanks @NiaTheCat - I’ve done that but not sure where it’s saved it to or how I can access it later.

PS It’s come in via an email.

@DW7 You have to click on that link to download the zip-file.

Thanks, I’ve unzipped it and opened it into an Excel program but it’s certainly not in a user friendly format like the Forum.
Never mind.

I’ve put up a read-only mirror of the forums at https://mylittlewordland.com/memriseforum

Things that are missing:

  • Avatars
  • User pages
  • Some images

The images are still being downloaded. Hopefully that finishes within the next couple of days, lol. I think it’d be great to figure out a way to patch in the avatars and user pages, but I’m not sure if I’ll have time for that or not.

If you notice anything else that’s missing, please let me know!

I’d like to make an announcement about this, but I figure it’s probably best to wait until the mirror finishes, haha.

Hopefully Google will pick up the site and after a few weeks it’ll be searchable

@Arete_Hime Thank you for being so thoughtful, and tagging me, and so many other members who otherwise wouldn’t have known about the forums being shut down.

Thanks for your work in creating a mirror of this forum on your own site.

If you have an account on archive.org, I think it would also be a good idea to upload a zip archive of the forum mirror that you just created to them, with a good title and metadata, so that it will be easier for people who are interested in having it to find it in the future. Doing so would relieve you of the storage and bandwidth burden of hosting such a large file yourself, and also eliminate the single point of failure risk of having the file hosted on just one site.

Ooh, that’s a good idea, thanks!

BTW, archiving is still ongoing, haha. Currently approaching 3GB. It looks like it’s mostly downloading images, now
