[Feedback] Identical translations

Greetings Memrise staff and users,

I am learning Japanese with Portuguese as a source language with Japanese 2 and 3 (I skipped 1), and I’ve come across a few entries that are translated the same way in Portuguese, even though they’re different in Japanese.
Namely, “ここにあります” and “どうぞ” are both translated as “aqui está”, and “パンツ” and “下着” are both translated as “roupas íntimas”. Those translations are not incorrect, but when the prompt is in Portuguese, it’s impossible to know which answer in Japanese the software is looking for.
There are also a few instances where the translations are wrong, for instance when Japanese does not specify a subject but Portuguese does. I cannot remember any right now, but I know I’ve encountered a few.
I have only been using Memrise for a little while, so I imagine there are more of these. The first seems like an easy fix, but the second would be more time-consuming to solve. Still, I thought I’d do what I can to improve this great product.

Thanks for reading everyone!

Hello. I agree with you. I also did these courses a few months ago, and I had the same impressions. But at that time, I did not know the forum, and only made my account in the forum a few days ago.

Now I am doing the Japanese language course for English speakers because it has 1-7, while the Japanese language course for Portuguese speakers only has 1-3.

The official topic of the Japanese course is:

All questions about Japanese courses are posted on this topic, and currently, KanaTsumoto solves the problems of Japanese courses. This includes questions for Japanese courses for Portuguese speakers.

So when I finish 3 I’ll have to switch to English? That’s good to know. Thanks, Milamy!

Besides the official courses, there are very good Japanese courses for English speakers, which were created by users. I really liked the suggestions of TinyCaterpillar:

The first ones mentioned were created by the user jlptbootcamp. In addition to these, there are courses from JTalkOnline, Nukemarine and many others.

You can try some of these and see which one you prefer. If you are going to try the JLPT courses, remember that N5 is the easiest and N1 is the most difficult.

Good luck
