[Feature Request] User/creator timer controls: on/off/slower

Please give users and creators the ability to control the timer on the web version, allowing them to turn the timer off or extend the time. The timer might be appropriate for learning single vocabulary words, but it is counterproductive when learning longer phrases/facts. It could also be detrimental to younger learners’ motivation who might not be as fast with typing or choice selection.

the timer doest adjust itself automatically to sentences: I always have more time to type sentences than I have for words (I know that for sure when about Chinese, Japanese, Spanish)

Someone mentioned before the issue of Tibetan onscreen characters/keyboard: that keyboard is the worst possible solution, which “solution” is “preferred” because memrise cannot cope with a certain number of languages/characters (for example, one cannot IME type Vietnamese on memrise, the characters are not recognized, I don’t understand why).

I would agree that for such an impossible onscreen keyboard, one needs probably half of an hour to find 5 characters… (I never use that keyboard, it is blocked by default with script). Memrise should come with a better solution for languages such as Khmer, Tibetan, Viet, etcetc

I, personally, prefer the timer as it is now.

In certain situations, I like the timer too. Adding the ability to turn it off would not prevent anyone from keeping it on.

There are plenty of reasons to have it on as well as off. Learners (and teachers) should have the ability to make that decision based on their specific situations.

I don’t know about other languages, but the timer does not seem to adjust for Japanese phrases (perhaps because there are no character spaces in Japanese sentences?)

Exactly! Such a thing needs not only to be learner/teacher adjustable, it should also be present in the Android App (unfortunately, no scripts for apps…)

There was a user script called “Memrise timer controls”.
But it is based on the old timer API code which is now broken from the last update.

I do not really care when / if Memrise staff will or will not implement a reliable solution, as they have not for the past 1,5 years (since I joined) and timer script codes date back much longer…
Personally I do not believe there might be finally an in-house developed solution anytime soon!

But here is the currently (today) working Tampermonkey solution: Userscripts [e.g. Memrise Turbo and Memrise Timer Disabler] and some userstyles stopped working with today's web update
