Are you sure you made me a contributor? I don’t see the Edit Course button, and the course doesn’t appear on my Teaching list either.
Please note that I’m extremely busy presently and a week of vacation is coming up this Friday so I won’t be quick with any updates. Is there anything I should particularly look out for (the course is pretty large!)?
I just had a quick glance - it seems that the punctuation is generally wrong, i. e. a “bonjour !” is written without the space between the word and the exclamation mark. This seems to be a very common error, but it would be a major task to correct that throughout the whole course …
I’m so sorry Olaf. I thought I added you, but in checking again, I realised I had forgotten to do the final “Save”. Thanks for your last para (re no space before the exclamation mark). I’m still learning. Don’t stress if you can’t get to it right away. I think there are 10 other contributors - not sure if they’re all still active (as contributors) or not. One area which I got stuck in but I know it needs work is phrases and possibly some of the grammar levels. It’s a while since I’ve looked at it. I found this on L47 - Verbs: Next Step and checked for any trailing spaces or the such, but I can’t see any problem with the item so I guess it really was just a glitch.
The word Bien Sur has multiple meanings including “very sure”, “of course” and “certainly” etc. Since we already have another certainly which is translated as “certainement” on level 43 wouldn’t be nice to differentiate this one as “Of course”? I have currently added that as an alternative and along with “very sure” which is actually closer to the exact meaning. Your thoughts on this please. I also noticed that we have “bien sur” as of course
Removing items is bad IMHO. Instead, I’ve now added a little hint to the items in question - due to Memrise’s tendency to show items with similar or equal text, adding a “[not X]” has proven to be very problematic, particularly in large courses. LMK what you think or feel free to remove the appendices again:
Pardon and excuser are both translated as “excuse me” however “le pardon” is more like forgiveness. Can we make it le pardon (to differentiate from excuse me)?
I am trying to learn French vocabulary with the “Learn French for Polyglot” course, and so far, it has worked out alright for me. However, a big issue that I have had with the course is the errors sprinkled throughout, which have been rather frustrating for me. Some of these can range from a smaller issues like simple typo, to larger ones like the incorrect use of an object pronoun or improper English translations (i.e. “to can” instead of “to be able to”).
I am not a native French speaker, but I know that there are people on this website who are. If it is possible to edit it, would any francophones be willing to go through the course and point out any mistakes? I am aware that it is an extremely long course, but it could be done over time and could potentially benefit thousands of people in the long-run.
Bonjour @Sebastian_S5411, I have been looking after this course for a while now but unfortunately I’m not a native French speaker myself. I just looked at other contributors names myself but not sure “who’s who”. I will start going through it myself and correcting however it could take a while. Help and/or advice from any Francophones out there would be appreciated! If you’d like to send me specific levels and examples, either here or as private messages, that would be helpful. I’d like to clear up any errors as soon as possible. Merci.
For a while now I’ve been looking after this course (and its sister course … No Typing). Those doing the course already may have noticed a few changes of late. If you notice words or phrases which you think are wrong or slightly wrong, please contact me and after reviewing I’ll make the necessary changes. I’m especially looking for assistance from any francophones, because when I get suggested changes I have to find a francophone (or check online) to confirm the change. Merci beaucoup!
