This is not at 10 minutes before 4, but at 10 minutes after 4.

I was wondering, in Arabic 1 (official), Level 13, the phrase “أنا أحب البرتقال” is colloquially translated as “I like oranges” but the literal translation gives " البرتقال" as “the-orange”. Is " البرتقال" actually grammatically plural, or is it just colloquially translated that way because that’s how English does it (using the plural to represent all oranges/the fruit in general)?
Also after reading this thread, it looks like there was staff support really actively responding in the first year the course was made (@ayat.memrise I loved reading your responses), but it seems to have been quite some time since memrise staff have responded to questions here. Just wondering if there are still Arabic specialists working on this language at memrise and if this is still the best way to bring up questions and concerns?

Also in lesson 11 of Arabic 1, for the phrase “القهوة شهية” the female voice pronounces it as it looks, but the male voice seems to be introducing a ‘tu’ between the words. So the female voice sounds like ‘alkahua shahaye’ the male voice sounds like ‘alkahua tushahaye’. What’s the difference and where is that extra syllable coming from? Is it an error or something else? Thanks!

I would like to learn some common phrases in Arabic. The course allows me to start learning letters… do the other features come later in the course - like “learn with locals”?

The official Arabic course is not good at all not gonna lie
I completed 3 courses out of 6 or 7 I think
I think they abandoned this language
Because I used this app 3 month’s and then I deleted my real account because there’s nothing new for this language
- No learn with locals
- No immerse
- Audio of some words are not correct for example جائع the audio of this word is not correct there are more words with wrong pronounceatin
- In real life nobody speaks MSA ( you guys should create a official emirati or Saudi or Kuwaiti dialect course just like Spanish Mexico and Spain
- The community created courses are not good
One thing noticed that the development team only care about Spanish and French language
And always add new things for these language’s
Seriously I really like this app and I know development team work very hard
But first you guys should improve the language instead of redesigning the web and the app
this app teached me a lot

The correct classical official by the book pronouciatiob would be alqahwatu shahiyatun.
That’s because of the letter ة at the end, which is basically a t. In 99% of cases, it is used for female words.
Since it is a gender marker, it is most often muted in day to day language.
Now, for the difference between tu and tun, it’s because alqahwatu is definite (starts with an al) whereas shahiyatun is indefinite (doesn’t start with al). And it’s that difference in definiteness that implicitly creates the meaning of “is”
