Correcting mistakes in own course

Hi guys,

Sometimes I notice that I’ve entered words incorrectly. When this happens, I correct the words under ‘Edit Course’ and save the changes.

However, I’ve found that when the app is feeding me questions, it uses the old (incorrectly spelled) words and doesn’t update to show the new words - and time doesn’t seem to fix this.

Is there any way to make sure corrections feed back into the questions?

Thanks!

In the past, you needed to logoff and then log back in in order to receive course-updates.

For Pro-users (i. e. users with a subscription) it is also possible to download a course for offline use (an already downloaded course needs to be removed first), as this triggers some sort of gathering of all current content.

However, it seems (hasn’t been confirmed by Memrise yet, care to do so, @MemriseSupport?) that you can now just pull down in the course list. Here’s a GIF that @ale_c made a few days ago:

Hey, thanks for getting back to me.

So the weird thing is the course updates itself automatically when I add new vocab etc…it just doesn’t update corrections to existing vocabulary for some reason…

Hi, sorry to hear you’re experiencing this. This sounds a lot like the infamous ‘phantom entries’ issue, which we’re aware of and is in our backlog - you can read more about this and find some potential fixes here.

Sadly, the troubleshooting steps above will not fix the issue in question. :frowning:

Thanks for your patience.

Just to make sure we’re not talking cross purposes: yes, I’ve seen this effect as well. That is, I add a new word to a course and it appears within the app when I work on the course again. Yet, when I make a correction (such as a spelling error) in an existing entry, the change will not be propagated to the app unless you log off/on (or proceed as described by me further up).

What @ale_c means is that, when you fix a spelling error, the old (erroneous) spelling is also offered as an (additional) solution when doing a (speed) review session. This is what is being referred to as “phantom entries”.

I’m actually not all too certain what of those two you could be referring to, hence sorry if my posting was misleading …

Just to add briefly, I see this issue occurring in multiple-choice tests in general, not just in speed reviews. It’s been an annoying feature for several years.

Hi, You have to “clear data” and “clear cache” of memrise app on your phone or tablet pc. You can do it on application stage. Remember, you must login again after that…

Hi @MxTxO - did doing that eliminate the ‘phantom entries’ issue?

Hi @ian_mn What is a phantom entry? I do not know it.

It’s the issue that I think the original poster (@houssam.alissaed ) is describing at the top of this thread:

"Sometimes I notice that I’ve entered words incorrectly. When this happens, I correct the words under ‘Edit Course’ and save the changes.

However, I’ve found that when the app is feeding me questions, it uses the old (incorrectly spelled) words and doesn’t update to show the new words - and time doesn’t seem to fix this."

Yes. I did it and it is corrected.
