I wanted something similar to subs2srs to improve my Spanish… and very poor Japanese so I create this… http://sublearning.com a flash card language learning site using movie subtitles. Spanish to English subs are here - http://sublearning.com/pick/spanish/english It covers 62 languages

I was trying your site @Michael_Rideout37, but when I click “Show Answer” nothing happens. Is it currently broken?

However I think I found another issue.
I chose to learn Korean (from English) and let it randomly select a movie. It chose Notting Hill, but both the question and answer are in English.

Example:

Movie / Show Title: Notting Hill
♪ I have to pay ♪
♪ She may be the mirror ♪

% I have to pay%
% She may be the mirror%

Also the music notes only work in one set of the subs.

Also, we’re pretty off-topic now (my fault) maybe we should move to a different thread?

Very interesting find re the songs in Notting Hill for Korean / English. It appears that whoever produced the subtitles Korean thought it would be better to use the English. I hadn’t seen this before. The Korean subtitles revert to Korean at the end of the song here - http://sublearning.com/sub/3098009/33/true

Thank you for showing me this. You’re fantastic at debugging. I think it would be best to remove subtitles that aren’t in the language they’re supposed to be.

What thread would you have in mind? If you create it Ill follow you :slight_smile:

@Michael_Rideout37, @tmilo, I’ve split the topic. To change the notification settings of replies in this topic, look to the bottom of the thread, under the reply button. There is a button there that says either “Watching,” “Tracking,” “Normal,” or “Muted.” Click it, read what the different settings do, and change it to the setting you want.

Are you planning to develop an app? Or would it be possible to export the flashcards to other SRS tools like Memrise so that one can use it in the subway for instance?

Would it possible to increase the size of the text to translate?
This will improve the understanding by providing more context…

Anyhow, nice idea and fun to play with.

@Nigu84 I do intend to develop things further. I completely agree with you on the ability of changing the size. I was thinking about this myself so it wont require too many changes. I aim to have to done for next week as work gets in the way :frowning:

I am planning on developing an app that would allow you to download a whole movie’s worth for offline use. I am also toying with the idea of allowing users to enter the translation and it will use machine learning to score how similar the user translation is to subtitle translation. This will require some effort though considering the number of languages the site supports.

@Nigu84 Sorry for the late update. I started a new job so couldnt work much on the site. I have now added the ability to configure the number of subtitle lines returned on each page. I hope you find this useful.
