@ahfarhang if multiple choice tests were disabled…all picture courses would be useless. Memrise is not only for languages

Atikker,
It is very simple to define whether the course is language base or not (and actually there is a point that you define the subject and category of the course). so it is not a rocket science for memrise team. and this was alright up to last three days. all of the sudden memrise team decided to mess with the very main point of their program (learning!) and disappoint a big range of their customers.

I don’t think this typing disappearence was intentional. (btw Learning geography, arts and music is still learning)

I meant language learning … you like finding typos

anyway it seems memrise is not listening and this is the 2nd time they do this. intentionally or not,

they are finding me :stuck_out_tongue:

I think they are just too busy at a moment trying to find out what caused all this

Hi Memrise team,

If you removed long typing questions intentionally, please put them back. Or at least add a setting to enable them. Memrise without long typing questions is too easy. I feel my learning process is completely ruined as I cannot practice forming sentences with all the words.

I’ve analyzed the code changes, and I can say that they changed this deliberately again.

They are now checking to see if the course has a certain attribute, whose meaning I have not yet decoded. If the course does have that attribute, then typing tests are always disabled for all answers longer than 15 characters, regardless of whether the course creator disabled typing tests or not. Of course, typing tests remain disabled as before, if the course creator disabled them manually.

This was definitely not an accident or bug.

any idea on how to fix this?

ask memrise team (if they are listening) to make this optional on the setting.

FWIW, I actually find multiple choice questions useful in language learning because even if I can’t type the response out, I may still recognize it in a group and that saves me from staring uselessly at the screen. I do agree there should be a way to disable them though!

Please do not forget to contact Memrise Support directly, to ask them about this feature. As number of requests grow, so grow our chances to get this feature.

Hi @ahfarhang, someone may correct me but I thought no typing of long sentences only applied to MemRise’s own courses.

If that is the case, learning from courses produced by the community might allow that, unless the Creator disabled all typing questions.
