Auto Verify correct answer does not work with IME (japanese

Hello there,

Using: The new Memrise experience (Beta).
Chrome, or Edge.
Japanese IME

In the old version (no alpha or beta), when typing in a correct answer it would automatically aprove.

  1. type in correct answer with IME.
  2. Bar goes green.
  3. Goes to next word.

With the beta this does not happen.

  1. type in correct answer with IME.
    …Nothing

Now i notice if i deselect the input box by clicking somewhere else on the page it does accept.

  1. type in correct answer with IME.
    …Nothing
  2. Deselect the inputbox.
  3. Bar goes green.
  4. Goes to next word.

(this would normally be automaticly confirmed)

Also having this problem with the Korean 1 course. Correct answers don’t auto verify like they did in the old site. I’m using chrome browser.

I think it may be a problem with languages that don’t use the latin alphabet because my spanish courses work fine but the korean does not.

I can confirm this happens on Firefox too. You have to exit the Japanese IME by pressing Enter in order for Memrise to detect the answer. This was not required previously, and Memrise was able to detect the answer as you were typing it. It’s very tedious and time-consuming to have to do this with every single word.

I’m also having this same problem and it’s slowing everything down for me

Hi all, you will need to hit enter for answers to be submitted when using an IME keyboard. This was introduced to fix a bug where answers input with an IME keyboard were duplicated. See here.

I would like to think there would be a better solution to a bug other than breaking a function.
Worked perfectly fine in the old version. So technically its possible :man_shrugging:.

Will this be the end of this report, or could a dev maybe take a second look?

Sorry, but I think this solution is not satisfactory at all. I bet the bug described on that link affected a tiny percentage of users, yet this fix (disabling automatic verification and requiring to hit Enter) is a huge slowdown on reviews that affects everyone. If possible, please try to explore a way to enable it again, since it was not problematic for most users and degrades UX so much.

Yeah this really slows me down and is quite annoying when doing reviews. I didn’t have any problems with how it used to work

The old version worked really well.

Hi all, I’ve opened a new bug report for this with our web team (internal code WEBSITE-3385). I’m afraid I can’t estimate how long an update for this will take as it will need to be prioritised against other bug fixes and improvements. Thanks for your patience :slightly_smiling_face:
