[Android] Memrise became useless 4 months ago and it still is

I’m only responding in kind.

Taking my money than almost immediately turning what I paid for into useless crap, ignoring community and my input and formal complaints is a lot worse than just “rude”.

I’m sure that you can find an old version of the app somewhere online.

I’m sure it should not be my problem. I paid for a usable app. I want my money back or appropriate service.

And that suggestion you wrote, although dressed up as polite, is plainly impudent.

I paid for a usable app. I want my money back or appropriate service.

I understand that very well. But I’ve downloaded many older app versions and it has helped me avoid many problems. I did not mean to be offensive at all. Perhaps I should reword it to something like the following:
I’ve avoided problems like this by downloading older versions of apps and this has helped me a lot. If you haven’t already considered this, I think that you should.

I may have overreacted to a suggestion from a fellow customer, but still… The very idea of making a customer look for a solution like this is offensive.

I agree, the colours blend into the background and it’s hard to see. I’ve tweaked the colour so its a bit more visible.

Hopefully it will be in the next release or the one after.

This looks clearer, but in my opinion the item to learn should be standing out.

Why is the immutable “continue” button so much more vivid than the memorized item?

Seriously, this is not rocket science. This is common sense!

@Joshua, thank you for the color change. It now makes the kanjis way better to read.

Sorry for interfering, but what course is it? At first glance it looks like an English course for Arabic-speakers, in which case it is the English word that should be standing out (and it is), not the arabic.

I had used a much older version of the Memrise Android app: v2.9_3947

I was quite satisified when I occassionally learned NEW words for my Portuguese (Brazil) on an Android emulator (KOPlayer, Bluestacks, Nox, Memu,…).

Pretty stable.

Never have used it for classic reviews as I am using the Memrise web portal and several activated Tampermonkey userscripts.

…(…)…

If everything fails, follow the suggestions to search for an (much) older Android app version on archive sites, download the APK file and locally install it (either emu or Android device).

Never tried any other language than Portuguese, sorry.

Here’s how it would look like

No it’s Arabic for English speakers. I can’t fathom how you’ve arrived at the opposite supposition.

Thanks for the instructions. However, I am a paying customer and I will not suffer this kind of hurdles.

You used the phrase “the sheer idiocy of the memrise team”. Calling people idiots is the same as calling them dumb.

There’s nothing wrong with my reading comprehension at all.

I normally don’t make comments regarding comments as such, but it’ll be best to avoid comments like this in the future. I’ll leave you with a quote from Kevin (this relates to bug report as well).

I arrived at this supposition because in all courses I ever learned words in target language were highlighted and English reference was pale gray.

(upd: corrected typos)

@Joshua, the Kanji still looks like the one in Grey Color, it is just easier to read then before.

This is selecting “Difficult Words”

that is the same all over decks and memrise… i use the web version

take the official jap courses, for ex

the German/English etc is huge, and the Japanese is tiny tiny and light grey.
While reviewing, the user is required, usually, to translate an item from a source language into a target language. Or, since the lastest UI change, the source language is written in bold and with a huge font, and the target language is written in grey and with a shaky font.

You’ll need to wait for next release cycle which contains this change. I believe this will be the week after next. I’ve updated this screen as well.

Thanks @Angharad.Merfin, I browsed through some Japanese and Arabic community-created courses and can see now that a large number of them (though certainly not all) use ‘wrong’ columns for target and reference words respectively. A real pain in the neck for users as well as developers with the latest versions of the app(s).
